Vegan & Vegetarian SIBO & IBS Support That Works: Heal Your Gut Without Giving Up Plants
Gut-Healing Plant-Based Natural Medicine and Nutrition
Bloating, Brain Fog, and Digestive Chaos? You Don’t Have to Quit Being Vegan to Feel Better
If you’re eating all the "right" foods—plants, fibre, wholefoods—but instead of feeling radiant, you’re bloated, cramping, foggy, and living on unpredictable terms with your digestion... you're not alone.
You might have been told it’s “just IBS”. Or that your gut “can’t handle” a vegan diet.
Maybe you’ve even tried cutting back on lentils, legumes, or leafy greens because everything seems to set off a reaction. And somewhere deep down, you’re starting to wonder: “Is my body just not suited to eating this way?”
Let me be very clear: it’s not your kale. And no, your body hasn’t turned against you.
The Real Problem: Your Gut’s Inner Landscape
For many of my clients, the issue isn’t the lentils or smoothies or fibre-rich bowls. It’s a microbial mix-up called SIBO—Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth. In simple terms, it means bacteria have taken up residence in large numbers where they’re not supposed to be: the small intestine.
This leads to early fermentation, gas, bloating, and the kind of digestive symptoms that make you want to live in stretchy pants and cancel all plans after lunch.
SIBO is now known to be a leading cause of IBS. It doesn’t matter how “clean” your diet is—if your gut motility is off, or your nervous system is stuck in fight-or-flight, your digestion will reflect that chaos.
And here’s the kicker: plant-based eaters may actually be more vulnerable to SIBO, not because of the plants themselves, but because of the sudden fibre load, changes in gut motility, and because the healthy plant fibres feed the undesirable bacteria IF they have already taken up residence. It doesn’t mean that plant fibres are to blame, but that if there’s an underlying issue, they’ll sure let you know about it!
Why I Specialise in Vegan SIBO & IBS Recovery
I’ve been in clinical practice for over seven years, supporting people with everything from hormonal havoc to autoimmune conditions. But SIBO and IBS in vegans? That’s become a real focus. Not just because I see it so often, but because I care deeply about helping people stay plant-based while actually feeling good in their bodies.
Time and again, I see clients on the verge of abandoning a vegan or vegetarian lifestyle—not because they don’t believe in it anymore, but because their gut simply isn’t cooperating. And no one seems to have answers that don’t involve cutting out half the food pyramid.
That’s why I’ve trained extensively in evidence-based SIBO treatment strategies, including self-study courses from Dr Jason Hawrelak and Dr Nirala Jacobi, leading gut health clinicians.
My goal? To help you recover your digestive health without giving up your ethics or joy in eating.
My Approach (aka What We Actually Do)
This isn’t another “here’s a list of supplements and hope it works” situation. When you work with me, we tailor your care to your unique gut patterns, nervous system state, and ethical needs. Together, we:
Run proper testing (like SIBO breath tests) to find out what’s really going on
Use targeted herbal antimicrobials (not gut-wrecking guesswork)
Choose the right prebiotics and probiotics for your case (yes, some can make it worse)
Support your migrating motor complex so things actually move again
If you’re open to it, we can address the emotional, stress-driven, or trauma-based roots behind gut dysregulation
One client told me: “I was honestly on the verge of going carnivore. Then I found you, and two months later I was eating lentils again without wanting to explode.”
What You'll Get When We Work Together
Clarity: You’ll finally know what’s going on in your gut (instead of guessing)
Calm: Bloating, brain fog, and belly drama typically start to ease rapidly
Confidence: You can eat plant-based without fear of triggering symptoms
Continuity: A plan that respects your ethics, your health, and your sanity
Compassion: This is a judgement-free zone. We work with your body, not against it

In Case You Were Wondering..
-
SIBO (Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth) occurs when bacteria from the large intestine migrate into the small intestine, where they ferment food too early, causing symptoms like bloating, gas, abdominal pain, diarrhoea, or constipation. Left untreated, it can lead to nutrient deficiencies and long-term digestive issues.
-
Yes. While plant-based diets are generally excellent for gut health, factors like stress, antibiotics, gut motility issues, and hormonal changes can still trigger SIBO. High-fibre vegan diets can sometimes worsen symptoms because excess fermentable fibres feed the overgrown bacteria.
-
A vegan-friendly SIBO plan may include:
Dietary adjustments: Temporarily reducing high-FODMAP foods.
Herbal antimicrobials: Evidence-based options that replace antibiotics.
Digestive support: Prokinetics, digestive enzymes, and nervous system regulation.
All tailored to maintain your ethical values while restoring gut health.t goes here
-
No. You can treat SIBO without eating animal products. Many conventional protocols include bone broth or meat-based diets, but with proper guidance, a plant-based SIBO protocol can work just as effectively and is far better for longterm health.
-
Overloading on beans, lentils, and raw vegetables too soon.
Using high-FODMAP protein sources during early stages of healing.
Skipping professional guidance and relying on restrictive diets, leading to malnutrition or disordered eating patterns.
Using aggressive antimicrobials that simply make things worse in then longterm, killing off good bacteria as well as the undesirable.
-
Most people need 6–12 weeks for antimicrobial treatment plus a structured reintroduction phase. Healing time varies based on the severity of SIBO, root causes, and adherence to the plan.
-
Yes, recurrence is common if the root causes aren’t addressed (e.g., low stomach acid, stress, motility issues, hypothryoidism, alcohol consumption etc.). That’s why I focus on long-term gut health and nervous system support, not just symptom relief.
-
Yes. I can arrange lactulose, fructose and glucose breath testing through trusted labs for accurate diagnosis, or work with results you already have. Testing ensures the right treatment and reduces guesswork.
-
Absolutely. I offer online consultations worldwide for SIBO and plant-based nutrition, so you can access expert care from anywhere.
